Personal or installment?
Four questions.

  1. Is it $2,000 or more?Under that, the request routes to installment terms automatically.
  2. Is your credit fair or better?Mid-600s and up with steady income usually qualifies for personal-loan pricing. Lower scores still get an offer, just at installment rates. Bad credit loans
  3. Do you want 12 months or more?Personal terms start at 12; installment can be as short as 3.
  4. Is the rate the main thing? Then apply, look at the APR on the offer, and compare it to what you're paying now. Declining costs nothing and isn't reported.

Personal loan questions

More in the full FAQ.

What's the difference between a personal loan and an installment loan here?
Structure is identical: one amount, fixed monthly payments, an end date. The personal loan tier is for $2,000–$5,000 with fair-or-better credit and carries our lowest APRs, commonly 5.99%–35.99%. If your credit is thinner, the same request may come back as an installment loan offer at a higher rate; you choose whether to take it.
What credit score do I need?
There's no hard cutoff. Offers at the lower end of the APR range typically go to applicants with scores in the mid-600s and up, stable income and low existing debt. Applicants in the 500s are usually offered installment terms instead. Seeing offers is a soft inquiry either way.
Can I use it to pay off credit cards?
Yes, and it's the most common use. Some lenders will pay the card issuers directly at funding. How consolidation works, with the math
Is there an origination fee?
Some lenders in our network charge one, typically 1%–5%, deducted from the amount funded; many charge none. If there is one, it's in the APR and on the offer. There is never a fee to apply, and no prepayment penalty.
How long does funding take?
Next business day by direct deposit for most approved applicants; same day with some lenders when you sign before noon Central.
Will it affect my credit?
Seeing offers is a soft inquiry. Accepting one usually triggers a hard inquiry from that lender (a few points, briefly). After that, on-time payments are reported to the three bureaus and tend to help your score; a consolidation that lowers your card utilization often helps faster.
