Moving loans
A move is ten small bills due the same week. Add them up first.
Nobody borrows for the truck. They borrow because the deposit, first month, utilities and the overlap all land before the old deposit comes back. Tick your lines, type your rent, and the builder shows the real number and the loan that fits it.

Defaults are typical 2026 figures for a one-bedroom outside the big metros. Edit any amount; untick what doesn't apply.

Loan rounds to $50 steps between $200 and $5,000. No prepayment penalty, so the refund goes straight at the balance. Representative example: $2,500 over 12 months at 35.99% APR is $251.14 a month, $3,013.71 total. Your offer shows your rate before you sign.
The overlap month, drawn.
The expensive part of a move isn't a line item, it's a calendar: new rent and deposit due before the old lease ends and before the old deposit comes back. A loan bridges the yellow stretch; the refund in green pays most of it back.
Deposit refunds are due within 14–30 days of move-out in most states, with an itemized list of deductions. Clean well, photograph everything.
Before you borrow for the move.
Free or cheaper than any loan. We put them first on every emergency page.
- Ask the new landlord to split the deposit.
Many will take half at signing and half over the first two months, especially on a 12-month lease. Deposit-alternative products (Rhino, Jetty) cost a monthly fee instead; cheaper short-term, dearer over a year.
- Line the dates up.
A move-in date one week after the old lease ends, instead of one week before, deletes the overlap month: often $1,200–$1,500, the single biggest line in the builder.
- Price the truck on a weekday.
Mid-week, mid-month rentals run 30–50% below month-end weekends, and "free" boxes from grocery stores and Buy Nothing groups are genuinely free.
