Spot the fake. Then score the one in your inbox.
Loan scams borrow real names, including ours and the other FrontPay's. They're easy to recognize once you know the four or five moves they all make. Two messages below, one fake and one real, with the tells marked; then a meter you can run any message through.
The red-flag meter.
Tick everything true of the message in front of you. The needle moves. Any single "hard no" is the verdict on its own.
Tick the flags you see.
Most real messages tick none of these. One is a reason to pause; a hard-no is a reason to stop.
How we contact you. And how we never do.
Keep this list; it's the whole test.
We never
- ✕Text, call or email you before you've applied
- ✕Ask for a fee to apply, accept, "release" or "insure" a loan
- ✕Ask for your online banking password
- ✕Ask for payment by gift card, wire, Zelle, Venmo or crypto
- ✕Use WhatsApp, Telegram or a personal email address
- ✕Say "guaranteed", "pre-approved" or "expires in minutes"
We only
- ✓Write from @frontpayusa.com, about a request you made, naming the date
- ✓Show the APR, payment and total before anything else
- ✓Give you days, not minutes, to decide
- ✓Connect your bank through a read-only link you control
- ✓Repay by ACH on dates printed in the contract
- ✓Answer at [email protected], Mon–Fri 8–8, Sat 9–3 Central

- Your bank or card issuer.
Dispute the charge, freeze the card, and change the online banking password if you shared it. Ask them to flag the account.
Now - The gift-card company.
Apple, Google, Amazon, Target and Walmart all have fraud lines and can sometimes freeze the balance if the card hasn't been drained.
Within the hour - ReportFraud.ftc.gov and your state AG.
Five minutes online. Reports are how numbers and domains get taken down, and how refunds get ordered later.

Forward the message to [email protected]. If someone used our name, we report the domain and number ourselves and warn others on this page.
