Six apps like FrontPay,
most of them cheaper.

The $100 FrontPay cash advance charges $9.99 a month for the smallest cap in its category. These six do the same job: a small advance against your next paycheck. Pick what matters and the table lights up the match.

Cheapest overall

EarnIn, tipping $0

No membership, up to $1,000 a pay period ($150 a day), free delivery in 1–2 days. The only cost is the $3.99–$5.99 lightning fee if you can't wait. Needs employer pay you can verify.

Most like FrontPay

Dave

Same shape: advance, small monthly fee, optional express. Membership is up to $5 and each advance carries a 5% fee ($5 minimum), so $100 costs roughly what FrontPay charges; the cap is $500 instead of $100. You open a Dave account, which is where the free instant delivery goes.

Express to an outside card costs 1.5%.

If you already bank with…

Chime MyPay or Varo

No monthly fee, up to $500, repaid from your next deposit. Only worth switching banks for if you were going to anyway; otherwise take whichever one you already have.

Both need qualifying deposits into their account.

Where every app stops.

Maximum you can get in one go, to scale. Past $500 the category runs out; that's where a loan with a fixed payment starts making sense.

Alternatives questions

More in the full FAQ.

Which app is most like FrontPay but cheaper?
Dave is the closest shape: a small advance against your next paycheck, a monthly fee, optional express. The membership is up to $5 instead of $9.99, but Dave adds a 5% service fee ($5 minimum) per advance, so $100 costs about the same; the real difference is the $500 cap. If you'd rather pay nothing monthly, EarnIn or Chime MyPay (if you bank with Chime).
Which one doesn't need direct deposit?
None of the apps really. Cleo is the loosest (it reads bank history rather than a strict deposit rule) but still wants regular income into the account. If you're paid by paper check or cash, an app isn't the tool; a loan that accepts those is.
Which gives the most money?
EarnIn, up to $1,000 per pay period but no more than $150 a day, and only against hours you've already worked. Dave, Brigit, Chime MyPay and Varo top out at $500. Nothing in this category reaches $1,000 in one go; that's loan territory. Installment loans
Are the "tips" on EarnIn really optional?
Yes, legally and in practice; you can set them to zero every time. The prompt is designed to make zero feel awkward. Decide once that you'll tip $0 and the app costs nothing but the express fee if you use it.
Can I use two apps at once?
You can, and people do, but each one pulls repayment on the same payday. Two $300 advances plus the memberships is how a $600 gap becomes an $800 one the following month. One app, or one loan, is the honest answer.
Why does a loan company list cheaper apps?
Because for a $40 gap an app is cheaper than any loan we could connect you with, and we'd rather you came back when the bill is $500 than felt sold to over $40. Our page on cash advance apps vs a loan draws the line in detail.
