Paper check loans

Paid by paper check? Lenders read four lines on it.

A paycheck on paper is the same income as one by direct deposit; it's just harder for a lender to see. Here's the stub with the parts that matter marked, the cheapest way to turn it into something a lender can read, and the four steps from check to funded loan.

1
Who pays you

Employer name, matched to the deposit description. On larger loans this is who gets the quick verification call.

2
How often

Pay period and frequency set your due dates. Biweekly pay means the loan payment lands the day after a check, never the day before.

3
Net pay, not gross

The number a lender sizes the payment against. About 12% of this, per month, is a comfortable loan payment; here that's roughly $390.

4
Year to date

Forty weeks of history on one line. A YTD figure that squares with the deposits is worth more than any letter.

What they don't read

Your tax withholding, your health plan, the check number. Deductions are your business.

Stop cashing it. Deposit it.

Cashing a check leaves no record for a lender and costs money every payday. Mobile deposit from a free checking account is both the cheapest option and the one that builds the history you need. Typical fees on a $1,500 check, 2026:

Over a year of biweekly checks, a 2% check casher takes about $780. The 6-month interest on a $1,000 loan is $107.55.

Check to funded loan, four steps.

Two pay cycles is the whole runway.

  1. Open or pick one checking account.

Any bank or credit union, or an online account with a routing number. This is the account you'll link and the one the loan funds into.

  2. Deposit two checks into it.

Mobile deposit on payday, every payday. Photograph the stub too. Don't cash part and deposit part; the lender wants to see the whole net.

  3. Apply and link the account.

A read-only connection shows the lender the deposits. Soft credit check, $0, offers in minutes. How it works

  4. Set the due date after payday.

Payment lands the day after the check clears, not before. Autopay from the same account, and the loan runs itself.

Paper check
questions

More in the full FAQ.

Can I get a loan if I'm paid by paper check?
Yes. Deposit the checks into the account you'll link so the lender can see them arrive, and keep a photo of the stub. Two pay cycles of deposits is enough for most amounts. Cash advance apps can't work with paper checks; lenders can.
What if I cash my checks instead of depositing them?
Then the lender sees nothing, and the store takes 1–3% every payday: $20 on a $1,000 check at a check casher, $4 at Walmart. Open a free checking account, mobile-deposit the check from the kitchen table, and both problems go away.
Do I need a pay stub?
For small amounts the deposits are usually enough. For larger amounts the stub answers the two questions a lender has: who pays you, and is this gross or net. If your employer gives a check with no stub, a letter from them or the check images themselves work.
Does a payroll card count?
If it has a routing and account number (most do), yes, it's an account. If the lender's system calls it prepaid, ask for the loan to fund to a regular checking account instead and keep the payroll card for pay.
How fast after I deposit can I apply?
Right away, but the offer reads what's already in the account. Deposits from two pay cycles ago count more than the one you made this morning, which usually shows as pending.
